This program was set up after an invitation was received from the local community for support in education, gender equality and community development programs in the Ghana region.
As a participant, you will assist local partners in conducting English lessons to both primary and secondary school children and on this program, the main focus being on working with gender equality organizations that advocate for women's social and economic advancement through education workshops. There is also a focus on public health.
This program has the following long term objectives:

Participants are expected to remain flexible as project work changes based on weather as well as needs of our project partners.
8- 10am: Early morning work in the community
12pm: Lunch
1pm - 4pm: Afternoon workshops
6pm: Dinner
9pm: Bed Time
Participants will be planning, designing, and delivering women's economic empowerment activities
Conducting research in to local attitudes and approaches to women's economic empowerment challenges & opportunities
Undertaking campaigns or activities to raise funding or awareness regarding women's economic rights and gender equality
We encourage participants to remain flexible, conditions in field as well as program activities depend on weather conditions as well as needs of our partners in the field.
Training for this program is offered online pre-program, keep an eye out for an eye out for your personal access to our online learning platform where you can engage with other participants and learn more about the program before arriving.
Evenings are free for participants to relax, you also have weekends available to do some sightseeing.
We also now include cultural/local experiences. These experiences will take place once every 4 weeks.

The base is clean, comfortable, and secure. Accommodation is in shared, gender-specific dorms (between 2 and 6 people per dorm) with shared bathroom facilities. There are communal spaces for project preparations, training, socializing, and downtime as well as a space for working out or doing yoga. GVI provides bedding and mosquito nets to cover your bed, although you may wish to bring a travel mosquito net for weekend travels. There is unheated, running water available. We don't have air conditioning but ceiling fans are fitted. Please note that there are dogs and cats at the base so please inform GVI if you have any allergies.
