Contribute to the conservation of the endangered green sea turtle.
Six of the seven species of sea turtles are listed as threatened or vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, IUCN Red List. Most notably, the green sea turtle, which is native to Thailand, is considered endangered.
This volunteer program offers you the opportunity to contribute to green sea turtle conservation as well as other ongoing conservation initiatives. In collaboration with the Phang Nga Coastal Fisheries Research and Development Centre, CFRDC, and the Phang Nga Navy Base, the organization is working to increase the number of endangered green sea turtles again. Since many beaches in Thailand and especially in Phang Nga have to recover, young animals are raised in conservation and research centers. At these local starting centers, turtles are raised from hatchlings to a size where they are less likely to be attacked by predators after release.
In such a center you will work and help with various tasks. One of your tasks is to clean the turtle tanks and turtles with brushes or treat the turtles with antibacterial and antifungal medicated ointments. In addition, you will help collect morphological data and conduct studies aimed at finding out what resources are necessary for the cognitive and social development of turtles. If you're lucky, you'll even be there during a release date and can help release hundreds of baby turtles back into the ocean.

Experience the truly stunning islands, beaches and underwater world of Southern Thailand.
You also have the chance to contribute to several other seasonal conservation efforts.
The base of the organization is in the small fishing village of Ban Nam Khem, which is about an hour and a half from Phuket Airport and about half an hour from the tourist resort of Khao Lak. The village offers participants the chance to experience life like a local, away from the usual busy hotspots. The base is only a ten minute walk to the beach and a fifteen minute walk to the center of the village where you can find small markets and street vendors. The volunteers share the house, including a living space, with staff and other participants from around the world. Weekends are your chance to explore the numerous stunning beaches, islands, caves and national forests that the Phang Nga region is known for.
In addition to your assignments centered around sea turtles, you will also have the opportunity to participate in a number of other conservation initiatives. Examples include: biodiversity studies on local islands, bird and butterfly surveys, beach clean-ups and conservation programs in partnership with schools, hotels, and dive and tour operators.
During Thailand's dry season, from November to April, you could also engage in coral reef exploration. You also have the opportunity to take part in special events organized by other partners, such as mangrove transplants or summer camps at the schools.
This volunteer program allows you to gain a holistic understanding of Thailand's diverse natural habitats, including coral reefs, beaches, mangrove wetlands and forests. You can also learn more about threats to and conservation of Thailand's habitats and species, what is being done locally to advance conservation efforts, and contribute to these efforts yourself. Particular attention is also paid to the central importance of local community involvement in conservation efforts.

All project work is conducted during weekdays, giving you evenings and weekend off to explore the beautiful Phang Nga Province and neighboring regions such as Krabi.
The landscape is known for it's fine, pearly sand beaches and dramatic limestone cliffs draped in lush green foliage surrounded by crystal clear turquoise waters. A day trip to one of the many nearby and partially protected islands offers not only beautiful scenery but also a variety of species to be spotted both above and below the water.
We also now include cultural/local experiences. These experiences will take place once every 4 weeks.
These activities may include:
The rooms are shared with a maximum of 6 participants per room. Each room has a bathroom with showers and flush toilets.
This program offers participants the opportunity to experience authentic Southern Thai cuisine while also having the opportunity to enjoy some of their own favorite dishes from home. Breakfast can include toast, cereal and of course a wide variety of tropical fruits. On some days the participants can prepare eggs and pancakes. From Sunday to Thursday lunches and dinners are prepared by local chefs and on weekends participants can prepare their own dishes.
