Typischer Tag

First, each participant goes through a training phase to learn how to accurately identify local fish and coral species. Training includes snorkeling and diving sites with the staff, as well as learning about fish, coral and invertebrate species.

Depending on weather conditions, the organization aims for each volunteer to complete 1 or 2 dives/snorkels daily, 5 days a week. During these dives, you will conduct underwater surveys after completing the training phase. In addition to diving, volunteers are involved in other projects and activities such as training, surveys and clearance of marine debris or topics such as environmental education, depending on local and project-related needs.

At the end of each day we eat, relax and share our underwater observations with the rest of the team. Life on base will be simple island living, sleeping in basic dorm accommodation with shared bathrooms and general cooking and cleaning duties.

At the weekend you can explore the beautiful surroundings and islands while immersing yourself in Seychelles culture.

Freizeit

During the expedition, the organizer usually organizes a hike to Cap Matoopa to explore the area. The final days of an expedition are usually dedicated to taking volunteers to their favorite dive sites to dive just for fun after completing any survey work.

On the weekends, many volunteers make their way to Beau Vallon Bay for a well-deserved break. The bay is the main tourist area of Mahe with a beautiful long beach, hotels and guesthouses, shops and restaurants for every taste. The diving centers in the area offer many options for all diving needs.

Most people would agree that sitting at the Coral Strand Hotel's bar with a cool drink and watching the sun set behind Silhouette Island is an experience not to be missed. Volunteers have the opportunity to visit the islands of Praslin and La Digue. Praslin is home to the Vallee de Mai (World Heritage Site), dubbed the original "Garden of Eden" by early explorers. This is where the famous Coco de Mer palm tree grows, which produces the giant double nut famous for its provocative shape. La Digue is the perfect tropical island, small with quaint inns and arguably the most beautiful beach in the world - Anse Source d'Argent.

We also now include cultural/local experiences. These experiences will take place once every 4 weeks.

These activities may include:

  • Learn to cook traditional Seychellois Creole dishes
  • Visit the Mission Ruins at Venn's Town
  • Paddleboard across the bay
  • Hike through lush forests and across rocky plateaus
  • Explore the ocean after dark with a night dive
  • Discover rare and endemic species of plants
  • Swim at a secret beach
  • Go fishing with local fishers
