Developing valuable skills needed for a career in conservation
The primary partner for this program is the Seychelles National Parks Authorities who require assistance and support in the conservation of the islands flora and fauna.
Participants assist in collecting data which is passed on to the Seychelles Ministry of Environment and other NGOs which is used in setting local conservation policies which is also shared globally with experts in conservation.
This program in Seychelles has the following Long Term Objectives:
Developing valuable skills needed for a career in conservation
Living the island life on an uninhabited, untouched island
Snorkeling in clear blue waters and spotting dolphins, fish and coral
Curieuse Island is off the coast of Mahe, the capital of Seychelles. Our camp is located on the beach front of Anse St Jose and overlooks Praslin which is easily accessible by boat.
Along with our partners, our participants are the only inhabitants on the island of Curieuse since it is a national park.
Volunteer work is Monday through to Fridays with weekends free to explore. The Island is only accessible by boat.
Conducting a capture, release and recapture study of the lemon shark population
Conduct year-round, weekly patrols of the beaches, recording data on nesting turtles and tagging females, monitoring the beaches for signs of nesting activity, and marking nests when we locate them
Investigating seedling recruitment and mortality and further determining species distribution across the mangroves
We encourage participants to remain flexible, conditions in field as well as program activities depend on weather conditions, season as well as needs of our partners in the field.
Training for this program is offered online pre-program, keep an eye out for an eye out for your personal access to our online learning platform where you can engage with other participants and learn more about the program before arriving.
Evenings are free for participants to relax, you also have weekends available to do some sightseeing.
Accommodation may be more basic then accustomed too, this is a research expedition base on a remote island so please keep an open mind - although you are on the beachfront in paradise!
